At the Japan Mobility Show, which opens in Tokyo next week, Toyota will present a conceptual electric pickup truck EPU. On the eve of the full-fledged premiere, the manufacturer published the first images and some characteristics of the novelty. Judging by earlier reports, it will enter the assembly line at the end of 2024.

2024 Toyota EPU has a four-door five-seat cabin and a relatively short cargo platform. With dimensions of 5070x1910x1710 mm and a wheelbase of 3350 mm, the electric concept falls into approximately the same class as the fuel Ford Maverick or Hyundai Santa Cruz. With the latter, it is also related to the design with a load-bearing body.

In the cabin there is a steering wheel-like multifunctional steering wheel and combined separate instrument displays and multimedia on the front panel. The company says that the novelty is addressed to outdoor enthusiasts.

This spring, Toyota presented a plan implying the release of 10 fundamentally new electric vehicles by 2026. Among them was a pickup truck designed for emerging markets. It is possible that the EPU concept is just its harbinger. In parallel, Toyota continues to work on an all-electric version of the larger Hilux pickup truck.
